This saying holds so much truth. We cannot even count how many times we felt tired or uncomfortable on the road.
But once the situation has passed, and we looked at it in retrospect, we found out it was not that bad.
I will never forget when we climbed to Tilicho Lake in Nepal. It was so cold; it started to snow on the way up, so we had to turn and walk back to the hut.
The trail became really icy and slippery, and I was really anxious that we won't make it safely back. But then, the clouds broke and the sun started to shine, and we could continue up.

"The important thing is never to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing." - Albert Einstein

Even for traveling.
"All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware." - Martin Buber
It would be a bit boring if we knew about all the places.
Thankfully, there are still so many secret destinations people do not know about. It is the motivation to explore these places is what keeps us going tirelessly.
"What you've done becomes the judge of what you're going to do — especially in other people's minds. When you're traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don't have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road." - William Least Heat Moon

Nothing is yours except the essential things: air, sleep, dreams, sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it." - Cesare Pavese
One of the quotes that go to the very core is the one of Cesare Pavese. We think anyone can hardly explain the beauty of traveling with such raw honesty.
When you think about it retrospectively, how many times had you trusted people, you did not know, and how many times did you feel you were losing it?
"Paris is always a good idea." - Audrey Hepburn
I was to Paris with my friend many years ago, and we will hopefully book flights together with Martin soon.

John Steinbeck is one of our favorites authors. We had read almost all his books; maybe this is the reason why we decided to choose this line among the most inspirational travel quotes. It is so accurate.
If you have a space in your backpack, pack at least one of his books.
Instead of the obvious choices such us Of Mice and Men or Grapes of Wrath, pick the perfect travel book this time, Travels with Charley.
"It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on earth has ever produced the expression, 'As pretty as an airport'." - Douglas Adams
Well, this one is a bit funny. Almost every longer journey starts and ends at the airport. We take it as a necessity, and we do not particularly like spending time at the airport.
On the other hand, some people love airports, and they would probably be able to express this in a sentence.
What type of person are you? Do you like airports?
"Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road." - Jack Kerouac
One of the few writers who can describe wanderlust so accurately is Jack Kerouac, the author of one of the best travel books ever made, On the Road.
Due to his fascinating life experiences, he is the king of favorite travel quotes.
"You don't have to be rich to travel well." – Eugene Fodor
We can relate to this saying even though we cannot pretend you do not need any money to travel.
We are used to traveling on a shoestring, and we know 100% that more money would not make our travel experience any better.
Perhaps a bit more comfortable, but that would be it.
Really, you do not have to be super-rich to travel the world. Or to be precise, to travel the world well.
"When overseas, you learn more about your own country than you do the place you're visiting." – Clint Borgen
One of the things we learned abroad is that we do not want to live anywhere else than in the Czech Republic.
We can imagine it for a short period of time - we lived for a year in New Zealand and then in Canada, but not forever.
When you talk with people from different countries, you will soon realize that life in your country is, in the end, not that bad.
And for us, it’s home.

Lazing on beaches in Brazil will help you forget for a few hours, but traveling is not a solution for everything.
"I did not tell half of what I saw, for I knew I would not be believed." Marco Polo

"Greatness from small beginnings." - Sir Frances Drake
Yet another famous quote reminds us that you won't reach the sky and your limits without the first important step.
No matter how the steps seem small.
Did you just put your first dollar to the jar and you want to save money for travel? Did you just book a one-way ticket?
Things are going to happen.
"Have stories to tell, not stuff to show." - Anonymous
We know it is all about preferences, but we are glad to be in a community that gather experiences and then share stories with readers instead of buying stuff we do not need.
Be more realistic, and always, before you decide to buy something, ask yourself whether you really need it.
That's also a great way to save money for traveling.
"A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it." - George Augustus Moore
There's no place like home. Traveling broadens the horizons and helps you find what you are looking for.
Without it, you would hardly realize that the thing you were searching for quite often awaits you at home.
"Adventure should be 80 percent 'I think this is manageable,' but it's good to have that last 20 percent where you're right outside your comfort zone. Still safe, but outside your comfort zone." - Bear Grylls
We try to follow this advice. We are not crazy and do not dive in headfirst.
There always needs to be a bit of stability - that is our travel style.
Still, to spice up our travels, we like to do adventurous stuff to get out of our comfort zone, but these twenty percents are quite enough.

This quote says the old and unmerciful truth that you cannot escape from yourself, no matter where you travel.
Hopefully, one day we will write a post on our favorite books, and for sure, there will be at least one from Neil Gaiman, one of the best authors.
"At the very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure." Christopher McCandless
Almost every traveler either read or saw film Into the wild.
Both are based on a real character Christopher McCandless; once you see it or read it, you will have a very strange feeling. It is guaranteed.
"No matter where you are, you're always a bit on your own, always an outsider." - Banana Yoshimoto
When you arrive in a foreign country, you cannot expect that everyone will be blown away by your presence.
You need to learn how to be alone, and even when locals accept you, the impression that you are one of them would be wrong.
As always, you would have to deserve their trust, but remember you are an outsider, especially if you are a drifter.
"Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller." - Ibn Battuta
Can you even tell how many times traveling left you speechless? Was it when you climbed a mountain? Or when you were snorkeling and saw how rich is marine life under the ocean surface for the very first time?
Often the strongest experiences need time to settle; only then you can turn them into the words. It's just a process that requires time.
“Spooky how the times flies when one is having fun." - Gilderoy Lockhart
Every person or couple has a line that makes them smile. Well, this is ours.
We are fans of Harry Potter, and always when on the overnight bus, or when we are waiting for something, we just cannot fail to mention this sentence.
"Everything will be alright in the end, so if it is not alright, it is not the end." - Deborah Moggach
We like this quote, as it is so positive. You must feel it, even when you are depressed.

"I heard an airplane passing overhead. I wished I was on it." - Charles Bukowski
A famous quote from Charles Bukowski, an unorthodox writer. Do you look up when you hear an airplane above your head, and think about where the plane is going?
How would it be to sit on board and headed to a new destination?
Let's say Florianopolis?
"You can't understand a city without using its public transportation system." - Erol Ozan
We like this quote for many reasons. One of them is that we often use public transport in foreign countries, so we personally tried and tested how exact these words are.
Public transportation is often a maze, a city within the city that a traveler has to master, to get around.
But once everything clicks together, the city will reveal its secrets.
"Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving." – Terry Pratchett
We feel that these words do not need a commentary. It is quite emotional to read it because we come and go every now and then, and this is precisely what exploring the world gives us.
The possibility to go home and to see it with different eyes.
"To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted." – Bill Bryson
One of the most common reasons why people travel is to escape the routine.
It is yet another quote that reminds us why traveling is such rewarding, and why millions of people around the world crave visiting exotic countries.
"Do or do not. There is no try." - Yoda
It is probably not hard to guess who from our couple sneaked this quote into this list.
Usually, we share interests, but Star Wars is definitely not one of them.
On the other hand, I must agree that when you eliminate the word " try " from most of your actions, you have to either do it or not. There is nothing in between.
Thank you, master.
"A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions." – Oliver Wendell Holmes
Every single travel experience, bad or good, will enrich your mind, your personality.
In other words, you will never be the same.
During life, we all collect knowledge, and our view of many things changes based on our experience. Traveling allows you not to stay on the spot and evolve.
"Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen." - Benjamin Disraeli
To prevent this problem, we decided to start this travel blog more than three years ago. We felt that our older travel memories slowly fade, and we wanted to remember and capture more.
It is funny how thoughts change in time.
Sometimes they disappear, sometimes they are more vivid, better than happened.
“I wonder if the ocean smells different on the other side of the world." - J. A. Redmerski
It is highly individual, but we think the answer here would be yes.

We know that 100 quotes are quite a lot, but we just could not stop adding more and more as we were browsing the internet.
When you get so far, do you also feel that the best quotes are usually the simplest?
"Every dreamer knows that it is entirely possible to be homesick for a place you've never been to, perhaps more homesick than for familiar ground." - Judith Thurman
Can you be homesick for a place you've never been to? We believe you can definitely feel something like nostalgia or longing, which is very similar to being homesick.
Has it ever happened to you that you wanted to travel to a place so badly?
"Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow." - Anita Desai
No matter what happens in the future, nothing but age will ever take you your memories.
Every single travel experience will move you forward, and it will form you as a person.
"Because in the end, you won't remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain." ― Jack Kerouac
It would be too arrogant to say that sitting in an office or taking care of your household is nothing you can write home about.
But here we agree with Jack Kerouac, author of a great book On the Road.
Your memories exploring nature will, for sure, be different, to put it mildly.
"Climb the mountain so you can see the world, not so the world can see you. Great things are done when men and mountains meet." - William Blake
We will always slightly prefer mountains over the sea, that's why we are so prone to liking travel quotes that include the word mountains.
It expresses freedom, awe, respect, and humbleness.
The primary motivation to climb the mountain is to see the world from the top, not to be seen.

Even though this quote might sound a bit negative, we think it expresses that every person must make their own opinion on every country he or she visits.
“What is it about maps? I could look at them all day, earnestly studying the names of towns and villages I have never heard of and will never visit..." - Bill Bryson
Studying maps can be intoxicating. We work from home. It has pros and cons, but to make it more bearable, we have a large map of the world hanging above our work desk.
It is a scratch map, so when we wait for an impulse or idea we want to write about, we often look at the map and start thinking about where to go next.
Well, maybe we should hang it somewhere else as it can be a bit distracting.
"Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity." - John Muir
We are pretty sure that sherpas in the mountains, for example in Nepal, must find incredibly funny to see a number of out of shape Europeans or Americans, overdressed in their brand new clothes, how they attempt to conquer mountains.
For us, for every person living in the cities, going to the mountain and experiencing the wilderness is a must-do thing, at least once in a lifetime.
It is necessary for our mental health, as getting to the roots is so important.
"Don't be that person who is too busy when you are young and then too tired when you are old." - Anonymous
If you wonder what the best time to start traveling is, it probably already was five minutes ago.
Never is a perfect time, but keeping all the adventures to the later stage of your life might not be such a good idea.
"Modern traveling is not traveling at all; it is merely being sent to a place and very little different from becoming a parcel." - John Ruskin
This phrase is probably not the most inspirational one, but we think it belongs here.
Think about what we became, and remember if you want to be part of it or your travel style will be a bit different.
Traveling is about getting from one place to another, but it is also the whole process of planning and learning, and that's why we chose to travel independently - so we do not become a parcel.
"Don't call it a dream…call it a plan." - Anonymous
This message could not be more explicit. It is nice to be dreaming, but why not shift the dream to something more serious?
"You can shake the sand from your shoes, but it will never leave your soul." - Anonymous
The fact that you are leaving the destination should not make you sad; memories will stay with you forever.
Even though you literally shake the sand, wash your clothes, and lose your tan after every holiday, you will always remember those beautiful days, and every memory will warm up your soul.
"Borders? I have never seen one. But I have heard they exist in the minds of some people." - Thor Heyerdahl
We heard of Thor Heyerdahl for the first time when we were backpacking in Azerbaijan.
While visiting petroglyphs in Gobustan, we learned about his highly controversial theory that native Norway people have origins in this region.
The quote we decided to choose shows his open mind and spirit we admire.
"Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and enjoy the trip." – Babs Hoffman
Some roads are full of potholes, and there is nothing you can do about it. Focus on the bright side, though, and enjoy your journey.
"No matter how deeply you come to know a place, you can keep coming back to know it more." - Rebecca Solnit
We like to explore new countries and new destinations. But we really feel there are countries we've already visited, and we still want to know them even better. One visit was simply not enough.
What are the countries we have on the list for the second visit?
"Move to a new country and you quickly see that visiting a place as a tourist, and actually moving there for good, are two very different things." - Tahir Shah
The grass is always greener on the other side.
We had already lived abroad in two different countries, and from our personal experience, living and traveling for a limited amount of time are two very different categories.
The first time we visited Canada, we did a road trip around the Canadian Rockies, the landscape was breathtaking, people were friendly, and it all seemed like a dream.
Later on, when we moved to Calgary, we had to deal with everyday stuff, and it was so different from the previous experience.
Not in the wrong way, but it was a very different experience.
"I travel not to cross countries off a list, but to ignite passionate affairs with destinations." – Nyssa P. Chopra
Traveling is not a competition. We all know that it is hard to avoid seeing beautiful photos on social media and not feeling that everyone but you travels and cross countries off an imaginary list.
Today is becoming famous slow traveling, and for igniting your passion, you do not have to visit many countries.
It might seem obvious, but there is nothing wrong with reminding it to yourself from time to time.
Could it be that sometimes less is more?
"There ain't no journey what don't change you some." - David Mitchell
Every journey leaves a mark on your heart and changes you a little bit.
So next time you arrive from a trip, sit down and try to think of at least one thing that has changed your view, opinion, or habit.
"When preparing to travel, lay out all of your clothes and all of your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money". - Susan Heller
As we usually travel as light as possible, we always wonder what others bring with them on vacation.
Seeing all the people lugging those huge suitcases around the airport, we like to play a silly game and try to guess what they have in luggage.
Probably bricks. But all jokes aside.
Overpacking is one of those bad travel mistakes and habits that we all are guilty of when traveling abroad.
Unfortunately, we can't take twice the money, but at least we try to leave those extra t-shirts at home.
"Any country where I am not bored is a country that teaches me nothing." - Albert Camus
Boredom is one of the main reasons why people travel. To be completely honest, you can't escape boredom even while on the road.
There are just those days, cities, or attractions that will almost bore you to death.
And by the way, it's okay to be bored. Even when on a trip or vacation.
Said that being bored always leads to something new.
"The best traveler is one without a camera." - Kamand Kojouri
Nowadays, everyone has a camera in their pocket when traveling. Sometimes we don't even see the beauty around us as we are really concentrating on capturing everything around us through the viewfinder.
For us, this is our dream to travel without a camera.
As we took all the photos, you can see on our blog and never use photo banks, we need to carry a camera with us all the time to create the content. We might say that this is our curse.
So, maybe one day, Kamand, maybe one day.
"There is a strange comfort in knowing that no matter what happens today, the Sun will rise again tomorrow." - Aaron Lauritsen
This quote always reminds me of one of my university professors and brings me back down to earth. She never failed to mention during the classes that nothing is THAT important.
So whenever you feel like things are not going the way you want them to go, take a deep breath.
Yes, it's unfortunate that the immigration process took longer than we expected in Toronto, and we missed our connecting flight to Calgary.
We were really desperate at the moment, but now it's just one of those funny travel stories we like to share with our friends.
Well, and if the Sun doesn't rise tomorrow, we still have those extra eight minutes.
